Everton are lacking a striker to score goals for Marco Silva.

Everton suffered their first defeat under Marco Silva on Sunday afternoon, losing 3-1 at home to West Ham United in a torrid display.

There are a host of problems for Silva to deal with; Kurt Zouma and Mason Holgate looked shaky at centre back, whilst the lack of control in midfield was alarming too.

Yet ultimately, one huge problem for Everton was a lack of clinical edge in attack, as Cenk Tosun missed a whole host of chances, whilst Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Oumar Niasse struggled as well.

It’s imperative that Silva finds a striker to lead the line, and whilst Richarlison could move from the left to the centre of the Everton attack, Silva may have to look to his youth ranks for an option.

Giant striker Fraser Hornby would be the leading candidate, as whilst he has yet to really flourish for Everton in the Premier League 2, he has starred for Scotland’s Under-21’s.

Over the international break, Hornby hit five goals in two games for Scotland Under-21’s, showing that he has a nose for goals even at the age of just 18.

Reports from The Sun on Sunday (16/09; page 63) claimed that a clutch of clubs are looking to sign Hornby on loan in January, offering him the chance to star away from Goodison Park.

However, Hornby shouldn’t have eyes on a loan exit just yet, as he has time to turn Silva’s head and prove that he can step up to lead the line for Everton, given that so many Toffees forwards are faltering right now.
