Celtic re-signed goalkeeper Fraser Forster on loan from Southampton in August.

Fraser Forster of Celtic arrives ahead of the Scottish Premier League match between Hibernian and Celtic at Easter Road on 28 September, 2019 in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Celtic loanee Fraser Forster has told The Scottish Sun that he could never say no to signing for the Bhoys permanently having returned to the club on loan.

Forster had been frozen out at Southampton by Mark Hughes and then Ralph Hasenhuttl, serving as third-choice goalkeeper at best behind Angus Gunn and Alex McCarthy.

A summer move seemed inevitable for Forster, and it finally came in August as Celtic struck a deal to take him on loan, handing him a return to Parkhead.

Forster had spent four years with Celtic as a loanee and as a permanent signing, starring between the sticks before heading back down to England with Southampton in 2014.

Whilst he initially impressed with Southampton, he made just one appearance for the club from December 27th 2017 until he left, with his stay on the South Coast turning into a nightmare for the giant stopper.

So far though, Forster’s return to Celtic has seen him hit top form again, and he produced a quite remarkable save to deny Lazio’s Danilo Cataldi in the Bhoys’ 2-1 Europa League win last week.

After chopping between Craig Gordon and Scott Bain, Celtic now appear to have a solid first-choice stopper, at least until the end of the season given that Forster is set to return to Southampton next summer.

Now though, Forster has given boss Neil Lennon real hope of a permanent deal by saying he would never say no to Celtic if they asked him to stay, and whilst he has to wait and see what happens, he’s enjoyed playing for a club where he is wanted again, meaning a long-term stay with Celtic is already in the 31-year-old’s mind.

“It’s so early in the season, but for me, I’d never ever say no to Celtic,” said Forster. “It’s just the relationship I have with everyone here — the fans, people within the club and the coaching staff. That was the big thing for me in the summer when I had to get back out and get back playing. I wanted to go somewhere where I felt wanted. I’ve not had that for a long time. I had some tough times there training for the Under-23s and being away from the first team.”

“To come back to a club like this is fantastic, so I’d never say no to this club. But it’s early doors and a lot of it is out of my hands. We’ll just have to wait and see,” he added.
