Frank McLintock puts allegiances to one side to praise special Spurs duo

McLintock has been impressed by Tottenham Hotspur pair Dele Alli and Harry Kane.

Former Arsenal and Scotland defender Frank McLintock has put aside his allegiances to praise two Tottenham Hotspur and England players.

Speaking to TalkSPORT about the Three Lions’ Euro 2016 chances, the 76-year-old – who also played for the two clubs’ title rivals Leicester City – singled out White Hart Lane pair Dele Alli and Harry Kane.

“I’ve been very impressed with Alli,” McLintock admitted on Monday’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show. “The first game I seen him I thought: you’re a bit special son.

“And Kane as well, who I think is a terrific player – (he) comes short for the ball, goes behind defenders, exactly, if you’re a centre-half, the sort of player you don’t want to play against. And he’s a goalscorer as well.”

Alli and Kane look certain to feature for England in France this summer after firing Spurs towards title contention this season.

The latter is the Premier League’s leading scorer with 22 goals, while no English midfielder has contributed more league goals and assists combined than the former (16), who was a League One player a year ago.

The pair were impressive in the Three Lions’ recent friendly win against Germany in Berlin, with Kane reducing the deficit to 2-1 with little under 30 minutes remaining.

Jamie Vardy equalised shortly after, and even though Alli missed a glaring opportunity to put Roy Hodgson’s men in front late on, his club mate Eric Dier was able to secure victory with a last-minute header.
