Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers are reportedly interested in Aaron Hickey.
Ibrox Stadium of Rangers
Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson wants manager Steven Gerrard to sign Hickey from Heart of Midlothian in the January transfer window for a fee of £2 million, according to The Scottish Sun.
Former Celtic striker McAvennie has suggested that Hickey should not make the move to Ibrox and make the mistake like Hastie.
The 20-year-old winger moved to Rangers in the summer of 2019 on a free transfer and was subsequently loaned to Rotherham United after struggling to break into Steven Gerrard’s first team.
McAvennie said on Open Goal, as transcribed by The Scottish Sun: “He [Hickey] is a good player. They took Hastie from Motherwell – why not keep him where he is and let him become a player?
“He could get lost now. He thinks he’s a boy, he think’s he’s made it. I think they should have signed him and gave him back to Motherwell even, because he enjoyed it there.”

Good move for Aaron Hickey?
Hickey is a very good and promising young left-back, and one can understand why Rangers reportedly want him.
The 17-year-old is just starting his professional club football career, and it will take him time to establish himself in the Rangers first team if he were to make a move to the Gers.
While leaving Hearts for Rangers would be a step-up for Hickey, he has to consider his development and progress.
