The 20-year-old Celtic man is rapidly proving a hit in Glasgow.
Frank McAvennie has told The Scottish Sun that he can’t believe Celtic hitman Moussa Dembele is already being compared to Didier Drogba.
The 20-year-old is swiftly proving himself a huge hit at Celtic following a £500,000 (according to The Mirror) switch from Fulham in the summer.
The French striker has already hit the 10-goal mark for the Bhoys, with his brace in the 3-3 Champions League draw with Man City bringing him to double figures.
With his pace, power and an obvious eye for goal, Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers likened him to the Premier League legend recently, according to The Telegraph.
But McAvennie feels that such a comparison is counter-productive for Dembele’s ongoing development, noting that he has a ways to go before he is the finished article.
“I can’t believe pundits are describing Celtic’s Moussa Dembele as the new Drogba. Talk about putting pressure on the lad,” he told The Scottish Sun.
“People need to remember he’s only 20 years old. Give him space and time to develop — without giving him an enormous label that could weigh him down before he gets out the starting blocks.”
Early days, but Dembele, who has also scored a hat-trick in Celtic colours – against Ranges, no less – might well be the bargain of the summer.
Doing it against Manchester City in the Champions League was a big sign that Dembele is not only good in Scotland – he’s a fine talent period, and one who can have a huge impact during his spell in Glasgow.
