Mark Warburton’s Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers lost 2-1 at Pittodrie.
Rangers lost 2-1 at Aberdeen this afternoon in rather controversial circumstances.
Mark Warburton’s side fell behind a minute after the break through Johnny Hayes, but Andy Halliday’s penalty on 79 minutes got the Gers back into the clash.
But in stoppage time, James Maddison’s stunning free kick denied Rangers what would have certainly been a deserved point, but the free kick which led to the goal looked a harsh decision by referee John Beaton.
Defender James Tavernier slid in on Hayes to win the ball, but Beaton penalised and booked the Rangers right-back, and Maddison took full advantage.
Beaton was very much at the centre of things from the 14th minute onwards when Graeme Shinnine was the first of nine recipients of a yellow card.
And Celtic legend McAvennie has suggested that the Scottish official, as well as both sides, were simply “hopeless”.
The result is a body blow for Rangers in a month which has been littered with them.
They have now drawn two and lost two of their last four Premiership games, and so far it is hardly proving the fairytale top-flight return they dreamed about.
What’s worse is that Warburton’s side are seven points behind leaders Celtic, who have played one game less.
They were the better side today all things considered, but they’re still lacking something and until Warburton figures out what it is, more disappointment is bound to follow.
