Former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie does not seem to be too impressed with the signing of Sean Goss by Rangers, as quoted by The Scottish Sun.

Rangers have signed Goss on loan from Queens Park Rangers in the Championship in England in the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old midfielder will remain at Ibrox until the end of the season and will hope to make an impact for Graeme Murty’s side in the coming weeks and months.

The former Manchester United prospect struggled for playing time for QPR in the first half of he season.

Former Celtic striker McAvennie, who had two separate spells at Celtic Park, does not seem to be too impressed with Rangers’ decision to sign Goss.

McAvennie told The Scottish Sun: “They signed that boy from QPR and I heard the manager down there saying he was coming up to improve his game.

“If he thinks he’s coming up here to improve then this is not the place. Rangers need someone to come straight into the team and push the players that are there.”

Meanwhile, QPR striker Jamie Mackie has outlined to The Scottish Sun what Rangers can expect from Goss.

The 32-year-old former Nottingham Forest man, who can also operate as a winger, has spoken highly of the 22-year-old midfielder.

Mackie told The Scottish Sun: “Gossy gets on the ball and tries to dictate the play. He’s obviously been brought up at a phenomenal place like Manchester United, so technically he’s very good.

“He’s also very hungry to play games. Gossy really wants to learn and get better. But what stands out is his technical ability and he just needs a run of games to show everybody what he can do.”

QPR director of football Les Ferdinand recently outlined the similarities between Goss and Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick.

Ferdinand told The Daily Mail: “If you look at Michael Carrick’s make-up and Gossy’s make-up, you will see similarities in the way they are built and their ability to pass the ball.”
