Frank McAvennie comments on Kieran Tierney’s Celtic future

Frank McAvennie thinks that Celtic’s Kieran Tierney is better than Manchester United’s Luke Shaw.

Frank McAvennie has suggested to The Daily Record that Kieran Tierney will eventually leave Celtic.

The former Celtic striker believes that Tierney could be a replacement for Luke Shaw at Manchester United, and that he is better than the 23-year-old England international left-back – who earns £150,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.com.

McAvennie told The Daily Record about Tierney: “The boy’s head will be turned. He will look at Andy Robertson, another Scottish left-back, in a Champions League Final. It’s a toss-up between them who is better.

“If Tierney goes to England he will improve as he’ll be playing every week against the best players.

“He could go to Manchester United and be a great replacement for Shaw – it’s the worst defence I’ve seen in a United strip for years.

“Getting Tierney would be a great start to rebuilding. He’s better than Shaw now. In two years’ time…”

Promising talent

Tierney is one of the best young left-backs in Europe, and the Scotland international’s performances and progress in recent years have been very encouraging.

The 21-year-old has experience of playing in the Champions League and in the Europa League, and he is also a serial winner of titles and major trophies with the Hoops.

Leaving Celtic

Tierney is a Celtic fan, and it must be a dream come true for the youngster to be playing regularly for the Glasgow giants.

However, it is hard to see the 21-year-old stay at the Bhoys for the rest of the season, and there will come a point when big clubs in the Premier League and in mainland Europe will come calling for the defender.

Meanwhile, Celtic goalkeeper Scott Bain has revealed that he has been watching videos of Marc-Andre ter Stegen in action for his own development.

Bain told The Scottish Sun: “Ter Stegen is one of the best in the world, if not THE best. So it’s good to study him, and get an idea of the pictures he sees on the pitch.”
