Celtic have signed Lewis Morgan from St. Mirren in the January transfer window.

Rangers may not have rated Lewis Morgan highly when he was a teenager and let him go when he was 16 years of age, but the Gers’ Old Firm rivals Celtic have taken a shine to the 21-year-old winger.

Celtic have signed Morgan from St. Mirren in the January transfer window and have sent the youngster back to the Scottish Championship on loan for the rest of the season.

The idea is to make sure that Morgan finishes the second strongly, continues his development and then work with Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers from next season.

Morgan is one of the best young players in Scotland and has been capped twice at the Scotland Under-21 international level.

Former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie has spoken highly of Morgan and rates the Scottish youngster highly.

The 58-year-old former Scotland international has compared the 21-year-old to 20-year-old winger Patrick Roberts, currently on loan at Celtic from Premier League club Manchester City.

McAvennie has also predicted that Morgan could develop into a number 10.

McAvennie told The Scottish Sun about Morgan: “People say he’s like Lubo. He can be, he can mould into that. I think he’s more like Roberts.

“I see him more like Roberts than Lubo. He’s got a great left peg, as he matures he can be the number 10 that Celtic want.”

Meanwhile, former St. Mirren manager and Rangers midfielder Alex Rae has backed Morgan to be a success at Celtic.

Rae told BBC Sport: “There’s plenty more development in the guy. There’s a risk going to any club. With his attitude he can go very far. For £300,000 it’s actually a snip with the finances that Celtic have.

“I’m sure Brendan Rodgers will feel as if he can take him to that next level. When you look at some of the players he’s done that with at Celtic so far, then Lewis Morgan will believe he can do that as well.”
