Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo joined Neil Lennon’s Celtic in the summer transfer window.
Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo has not been a huge success at Celtic so far this season.
The 24-year-old left-back joined Celtic from Rapid Vienna in the summer transfer window for a fee reported by The Scottish Sun to be worth £3 million.
The defender arrived at the Hoops when Kieran Tierney was still at Celtic Park and was expected to push the Scotland international left-back for a place in the starting lineup.
With Tierney having left for Premier League outfit Arsenal in the summer transfer window, Bolingoli-Mbombo was expected to step up, but the former Club Brugge failed to do so.
The defender was even ignored for the left-back position in favour of midfielder Callum McGregor for the Champions League qualifier against Cluj.
However, in recent games, Bolingoli-Mbombo has done relatively well for Celtic at left-back, and it appears that he is getting his confidence back.
The defender did well against AIK on Thursday evening, as he was decent in defence and made some good attacking forays.
Celtic manager Neil Lennon has included the left-back in the starting lineup against Rangers at Ibrox in the Old Firm derby this afternoon.
Former Celtic stars Chris Sutton and Frank McAvennie has positive words for Bolingoli-Mbombo, but former Rangers ace Derek Ferguson does not think that the left-back is good enough for the Hoops.
Sutton wrote about Bolingoli-Mbombo in The Daily Record: “Some of the criticism of Bolingoli has been unfair. He had a couple of ropey games but has shown signs of finding his feet.”
McAvennie said about Bolingoli-Mbombo on Open Goal: “I think he is going to be a good player. He is an athlete.”
Ferguson said about Bolingoli-Mbombo on Open Goal: “No for me. For a Celtic player, I think he should be far better.”
