Frank LeBoeuf has called on Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp to give Ben Davies his competitive debut for the club.
The Reds’ injury crisis got a little more farcical on Saturday when Jordan Henderson – playing as a centre-back – went off after 30 minutes in the 2-0 defeat by Everton at Anfield.
Midfielders Henderson and Fabinho had dropped back into Liverpool’s back four to cover injuries to Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip, but now they’re both also absent and Klopp is really down to the bare bones.
The German manager signed Davies and Ozan Kabak in the January transfer window but the former Preston North End stalwart is yet to earn any playing time with the reigning Premier League champions.
But legendary French defender LeBoeuf claims that Klopp has little choice but to use the 25-year-old – who cost £2 million – now.
He told ESPN: “He got Davies in the winter time. But now he [Henderson] is injued. Davies was signed for that. He has to be tried. He is a central defender and we could get a good surprise.”
It doesn’t seem like Klopp rates Davies all that much just yet.
He had a chance to use him as Henderson’s substitution on Saturday but instead he elected for Nat Phillips.
Liverpool aren’t back in action until Sunday when they visit Sheffield United but logically Klopp has to use the English powerhouse if his other options haven’t recovered.
