The Newcastle United man stood out for mainly the right reasons in the Euro 2016 final.
Speaking to ESPN, former France international Frank LeBoeuf has claimed that Newcastle United’s Moussa Sissoko was the only player he liked during les Bleus 1-0 Euro 2016 final defeat by Portugal on Sunday night.
Eder’s goal in extra time settled a tight affair in which a number of France’s big-name players failed to have an impact, with Olivier Giroud, Dimitri Payet and Antoine Griezmann – who netted 13 times between them in the competition – struggling for an influence.
One player who did look on his game was the Newcastle man, whose pace and power caused Portugal a host of problems, though he missed one good opportunity in the first half which, in the end, proved costly.
Still, the 26-year-old was far and away France’s best attacking player on the night, and LeBoeuf has highlighted his performance and contribution to the cause.
“The only one I enjoyed watching was Sissoko today,” he told ESPN. “He gave the power and he was trying. He needs to work harder on finishing, but he had the right tempo for a final.”
The performance was arguably enough to secure a move away from Newcastle, who will compete in the Championship this season following their relegation.
He is unlikely to be short on suitors, but the Magpies will also be able to demand a sizeable fee on the back of his Euro 2016 exploits.
