If Chelsea bring in a new face during the January transfer window, then that player in question will have a chance to win a trophy pretty much straight away.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side booked their Wembley ticket on Tuesday when they thrashed Middlesbrough in the second leg of their League Cup semi-final.

And now, players like Karim Benzema, have the chance to win some more silverware at Chelsea, that’s if he signs this month.

Frank Leboeuf has urged the Al-Ittihad striker to make the switch to Stamford Bridge, if he still has the fitness levels to do so, as he told ESPN.

Sources have told HITC Football that Karim Benzema has been offered to Chelsea this month, as he could leave the Saudi Pro League.

The 36-year-old left Real Madrid last summer and moved to Saudi Arabia, and if anyone can now pay his wages, then a return to Europe could be on the cards for a player dubbed ‘incredible’ for the career he has had.

With Chelsea in need of more firepower this month, Leboeuf was asked if he would call his fellow countryman about a move to the Premier League.

“If I call him and reach out to him, then I would ask him ‘how fit he is’ because I want to make sure that he is going to be useful’,” said Leboeuf.

“If Karim Benzema still has the willingness to do his best and get in shape, like he was at Real Madrid, then he is more than welcome and I would urge him to come and score goals for Chelsea, for sure.

“You can’t deny that Karim Benzema, in the last decade, was the best striker in the world. You would love to have the same type of player, at the same level, for Chelsea.”

Second half of the season for Chelsea

It has been doom and gloom for too long for Chelsea now, but the signs are starting to turn towards a positive direction.

Given that Pochettino didn’t win a trophy at Spurs, if he does it in his first six or so months at Chelsea, then it will give the fans something to laugh about and it will lift the pressure off the manager.

Of course, the other task is to return to Europe and to climb up the Premier League table.

Four points separate Chelsea in ninth and West Ham in sixth, so this could all change in the coming few months.
