Frank Lampard believes Tottenham’s key men will not hang about if they do not win trophies.
Frank Lampard has added his name to the pundits who have warned Tottenham Hotspur that silverware is essential to keeping their best players.
Speaking ahead of this evening’s Champions League match against APOEL, Lampard warned Harry Kane and Dele Alli could consider their options an potentially move on.
Tottenham’s talented young team are the envy of many Premier League sides, but they have so far been unable convert their strong performances over the past three seasons into trophies.
Speaking to the London Evening Standard, former Chelsea midfielder Lampard warns: “Spurs need to win some silverware. People keep talking about how this is such a great Tottenham team, but they haven’t won anything yet.
“It can only get to a certain point before players like Harry Kane and Dele Alli begin looking elsewhere.”
Kane and Alli have both signed new contract within the past 18 months, but also will realise they could be earning a lot more elsewhere.
Gareth Bale left Tottenham in 2013 and has gone on to win one La Liga title and three Champions League medals.
Spurs finished third in 2015/16, second in 2016/17, and are hoping to go one better this season.
This will not be easy due to the big investment from Manchester United and Manchester City, but Tottenham are inside the top four already and are well positioned to mount a title challenge of their own.
