Tottenham legend Graham Roberts has urged Frank Lampard to sign Dele Alli and take him to Everton – after Lampard was announced as Everton boss. Dele’s future remains unclear even at this late stage on deadline day.
Dele, 25, has played twice for Spurs in the Premier League since November and just three times since the arrival of Antonio Conte as Nuno’s replacement. The 37-time England star has been linked with multiple sides.
A move has been touted for Dele – with Everton said to be interested on a deadline-day move despite the imminent arrival of Donny van de Beek on loan from Manchester United. Spurs are making a double signing.
Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski are expected to be announced at Spurs – both from Juventus. So, Dele will fall down the pecking order. Gio Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele are joining Villarreal and Lyon respectively.
Tottenham legend Roberts responded to the arrival of Lampard as Everton manager – where he has signed a contract until 2024 – by urging the ex-Chelsea man to bring Dele to Goodison Park in a move that suits all.
Roberts on Dele: Everton move is perfect for Tottenham star
While Everton are bringing in van de Beek, the Netherlands man is more of an eight than a 10. Dele thrives off playing behind the striker. So, surely Everton need to consider a move – with James Rodriguez leaving this term.
Dele can also play out wide, but Lampard is renowned for liking a 4-3-3 formation with two attacking midfielders anchored by a player like Allan. It could also be a 4-2-3-1, in which Dele plays behind Dom Calvert-Lewin.
Roberts says it is a deal that suits all, and it is. Tottenham could get a player back in the summer with renewed confidence, Everton benefit from a top player in Dele – and the player gets game time.
