According to Calciomercato, West Ham and Crystal Palace are interested in signing Olivier Giroud this summer.

The Italian news outlet writes that the 34-year-old is expected to leave Chelsea when his contract expires next month.

There seem to be no plans for a renewal.

As a result, both the Eagles and the Irons are sniffing around, but they face serious competition.

Calciomercato add that Juventus, Inter Milan, Roma and Lazio are also interested in signing Giroud.

If the 107-cap France international ends up at Crystal Palace, and Frank Lampard is then appointed, it seems as if the 42-year-old would be pleased.

During their time at Chelsea together, Lampard waxed lyrical about Giroud on a number of occasions.

As quoted by Football London, the man who could replace Roy Hodgson called Giroud a ‘fantastic’ striker, as well as an ‘amazing’ player.

Having said that, if West Ham can secure a place in Europe next season, then they’ll surely have the upper hand over the south Londoners.

At 34, you might feel as if the £18 million man is past his sell-by date.

However, with 11 goals this season – mostly after coming off the bench – he still knows how to be a nuisance for defenders.

Impressively, six of those goals came in just eight Champions League appearances this term.

As far as free agents go this summer, clubs will struggle to find a better one than Giroud.
