Chelsea legend Frank Lampard discussed Dele Alli’s fine run of form, when speaking to Sky Sports, and explained the key change to his role which has made him so much more effective for Spurs in the final third.
The 20-year-old is currently in the midst of a remarkable rise within the game, that has seen him move from League One side MK Dons to being a regular for both Tottenham and the England national team.
Alli has scored 16 goals in 38 appearances in all competitions for the Lilywhites this season, and if he keeps up that kind of ratio, Mauricio Pochettino will have a serious task on his hands if he hopes to keep hold of the youngster.
And Lampard, who scored 177 Premier League goals during his glittering career, explained why the Spurs star has been so much more efficient in front of goal this season, when speaking to Sky Sports:

“His responsibility as a defender has completely gone. I have to say I agree with it. When he’s so clinical, when he makes such good runs around the box and when he’s scoring so often with two really solid midfield players behind him, why does he need to get involved in that?”
The north London outfit currently sit in second position in the Premier League table, but are a distant 10 points adrift of Lampard’s former club Chelsea, and if they are to push them all the way this season, Alli will have to raise his game further still, what with the expected prolonged absence of Harry Kane.
