‘Still have’: Lampard makes admission about Tottenham’s squad ahead of today’s game

Frank Lampard has told Football London that Tottenham ‘still have’ a ‘fantastic’ squad at their disposal ahead of today’s League Cup meeting.

Both teams picked up a point from their respective Premier League games over the weekend and the showdown tonight in North London is one that comes with big pressure.

Whilst Spurs and Chelsea have made moves during this summer transfer window, they are both aware that defeat against their rivals would turn the heat up in their respective kitchens.

Jose Mourinho has had to deal with a pretty heavy fixture list, which was acknowledged by Lampard, as he shared his honest thoughts on today’s opponents.

“I know it is a busy time for Spurs,” Lampard told Football London.

“They have had a busy week. But I know the squad they have, they still have a fantastic squad. Any team they put out will be very strong.”

There is perhaps more pressure on Lampard than Mourinho because the former has spent more money, and from a defensive aspect, they haven’t started the season in the manner he would have wanted them to.

Mourinho was also brought in to add trophies to Tottenham’s cabinet, but it seems if he can guide them to a top-four finish, and a top-four finish only, this season then it may be accepted by the fans and those in the boardroom.

But for Chelsea, given that they finished fourth last time out and lost an FA Cup final, a lot more will be expected of yet another expensive squad assembled at Stamford Bridge.

Added with that, regardless of where either team ends up this season, getting knocked out by your rivals will not be accepted. It will only dampen and anger the mood of whichever camp is slumped on the floor after 90 minutes today.
