Tottenham face Real Madrid on Wednesday in Group H of the Champions League.

Frank Lampard has claimed in his London Evening Standard column that Tottenham can beat Real Madrid for the first time in the club’s history on Wednesday night as they welcome Zinedine Zidane’s men to Wembley.
Spurs have the chance to book their place in the last 16 of the competition with three points against Real, who are struggling for form this season with eight points separating them and La Liga leaders Barcelona at this early stage.
Former Chelsea and England midfielder Lampard believes Spurs’ last two defeats mean little as they rotated their side to face West Ham, before a late goal and the absence of Harry Kane proved costly against Man United.

“I fancy Tottenham to beat Real,” Lampard said. “I don’t think they have lost momentum since they last played them, despite their last two games ending in defeat. Pochettino changed the team against West Ham in the League Cup and we all know what he thinks about the competition.
“At Manchester United they missed Kane through injury but it was just a late lapse that cost them. I still think they’re a force, defensively sound and move the ball well.”

The two sides played out a 1-1 draw just over a fortnight ago, as Raphael Varane put through his own net before Cristiano Ronaldo equalised from the penalty spot just before the half-time whistle.
Spurs are expected to welcome back top scorer Kane to the starting line-up, as he aims to overcome a hamstring injury picked up in the 4-1 win over Liverpool earlier this month.
A Spurs win would not only see the north Londoners qualify for the last 16, but see them finally beat Spurs at the sixth time of asking after suffering two draws and three losses since first going head to head in 1985.
