Liverpool maintained their 100% record in the Premier League when they beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Frank Lampard has praised Trent Alexander-Arnold’s ‘ridiculous’ goal during Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
Whilst Lampard would have been disappointed with Chelsea losing on the day, he simply stated ‘fair play’ to Alexander-Arnold, whose thunderbolt of a free-kick opened the scoring.
The Reds would double their lead through Roberto Firmino in the first half, who ended up scoring moments after the home side had a goal chalked off by VAR for offside.
Speaking to Sky Sports Football (22/09/2019 at 6:50 pm), Lampard felt that overall his team didn’t deserve to lose, but he seemingly admitted that his side couldn’t do much about Alexander-Arnold’s strike.
“We didn’t deserve to lose,” Lampard told Sky Sports. “Possibly could have won. I don’t want to sound naive because details do change games against top opposition, particularly.
“To concede, well the free-kick is just a ridiculous goal. Fair play to that and in terms of the finish. But the cross and Firmino shouldn’t be having a free header in our box.”
That free-kick by Alexander-Arnold against Chelsea isn’t a fluke by the youngster because it is something he has shown to have in his locker for a number of years now.
Given his age, it is logical that he will only get better in making the most of dead-ball situations, as he could become a real master of that art down the line.
Nonetheless, that strike and overall performance by Liverpool helped them secure yet another three points in the Premier League, as they sit top with a five-point lead over second-placed Manchester City.
