Derby County boss Frank Lampard has told the Derby Telegraph that he has been impressed with Jack Marriott in training.

Marriott joined Derby from Peterborough United this summer in a big money transfer.

The striker has only been used sporadically during his time with the Rams, but did score against Manchester United in midweek.

Marriott came off the bench to head home Derby’s second goal of the match.

And Lampard claims that he has been impressed by the hunger than Marriott has shown in training since arriving.

“I was delighted for him,” said Lampard.

“I said to him as he was going on against United ‘what better place to score your first goal then Old Trafford?’

“I know he loves scoring, he has shown us that in training since he has been here.”

Whether Marriott’s goal will force him into Derby’s starting line-up from now remains to be seen.

The Rams picked up a memorable victory on penalties at Old Trafford, with Lampard’s side earning a lot of praise for their performance.

Derby are next in action at the weekend, when they take on Bolton Wanderers.
