Frank Lampard has joked that he expects something ‘silly’ to happen in the lead up to Derby County’s play-off semi-final clash against Leeds United next Saturday.

The Rams went into the final day of the season knowing a win would confirm their top-six status and they did just that when they recorded a valuable three points against fourth-placed West Brom.

Now they will meet Leeds in a two-legged affair and there is no doubt that the drama of Spygate from earlier on in the season will rear its ugly head once again.

Speaking to Sunday Exclusive on TalkSport (05/05/2019 at 3:40 pm), Lampard was asked about Spygate after his team booked their playoff spot.

On highting security at the training ground: “No, no, I am not really ready for all that talk,” Lampard told TalkSport. “I am solely going to focus on, ‘can we get a result in these two games against a very, very good Leeds team?’

“Hopefully, there is no nonsense through the week. I am sure someone will try to do something silly. We will just continue to work and see what we can do.”

Marcelo Bielsa’s side won both encounters during the regular season and Lampard will be hoping his team can put that behind them and produce the goods when it matters most.

The first leg will be played at Pride Park and Derby will be fully aware that they will need to win in order to give them a chance of securing that Wembley trip.

The positive for Derby will be that Leeds are in a bad run of form. Bielsa’s side suffered a surprising 3-2 defeat at already-relegated Ipswich Town on the final day of the season.
