Pundit Frank Lampard has told the London Evening Standard that he is expecting Christian Eriksen to be the man to step up for Tottenham in Dele Alli’s absence.

Tottenham hammered Everton 3-0 in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon, with Eriksen finding the net in between a brace for striker Harry Kane.

After taking just one point from home games against Chelsea and Burnley, Spurs got back to winning ways – and must now take that into the Champions League.

Tottenham have been pitted against Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund and APOEL Nicosia in a tricky group, with their first game against Dortmund coming up on Wednesday.

Tottenham’s struggles at Wembley have been well-documented; defeats to Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen dumped them out of the Champions League last year, whilst they could only muster a 2-2 draw with Gent to crash out of the Europa League.

Spurs must improve at their temporary home, but will be without playmaker Dele Alli after his red card against Gent last season, with his suspension carrying over into his next European encounter.

Alli will be a huge miss, but pundit and ex-Chelsea star Frank Lampard has told the London Evening Standard that he expects Christian Eriksen to step up and make the difference in Alli’s absence.

Eriksen was sensational against Everton on Saturday, and Lampard feels that Eriksen’s creative play in midfield will be vital to Tottenham’s hopes of claiming a win at Wembley, especially with Alli out.

“Christian Eriksen has become such a good player for Tottenham he can ensure Dele Alli won’t be missed too much against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday,” said Lampard. “Being without a player of Alli’s quality through suspension is never ideal, yet Eriksen is the one I expect to step up.”

“I saw Spurs’ win over Everton at the weekend and he was fantastic in midfield, creating chances and dictating play. Now, it is important for Tottenham’s season to get their first win at Wembley,” he added.
