Frank Lampard has told Friday’s press conference – as per the Liverpool Echo – that Antonio Conte is “one of the best” coaches in the world ahead of Everton’s clash against Tottenham in North London, on Monday night.
The clash between the two sides sees Lampard come up against one of Chelsea’s most-recent managers – though the two never worked together given Lampard had left the Blues as a player in 2014.
Everton will be buoyed by Thursday night’s FA Cup win over Boreham Wood, though it was a match they were expected to win. Conte, on the other hand, watched his side lose 1-0 to Championship outfit Middlesbrough.
An intriguing tie given Everton’s position in the table and their need to pick up points quickly, while Spurs’ inconsistency means they could win or lose. Lampard was full of praise for Conte, and knows what Spurs are capable of.
“You have to expect the best, which is a very good team with top end players, managed by one of the best coaches out there. We’ll approach it expecting a very strong Tottenham team,” Lampard said.
“Spurs and Conte have a certain style which has been so successful in Antonio’s years. We just have to respect their style, the way they play and the quality individuals amongst that.”
Lampard on Conte: Tottenham should really beat Everton
But who knows what Tottenham will turn up? They were superb against Manchester City, showing fight and grit. While Leeds were incredibly poor against Spurs, the Londoners still needed to put them away – and they did.
Everton have been poor in the Premier League, but again, showing the odd moment of class. The Toffees have the power to win the game, but Spurs should really secure all three points in front of their own crowd.
