Frank Lampard delivers his verdict on Everton boss Sam Allardyce’s comments

Everton boss Sam Allardyce strongly criticised his side after their latest defeat.

Frank Lampard has told Match of the Day, which was broadcast on BBC One on 13th January, that he believes Everton boss Sam Allardyce was correct to lay into his players after their heavy defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Everton were beaten 4-0 by Spurs at Wembley yesterday, and Allardyce questioned his players’ lack of professionalism after the contest.

He said to the Daily Mail: “Too many of our players decided to not defend any more when Tottenham had the ball with the quality of players they have, they will cut right through you.

“But for Jordan Pickford they could have had more, so I’m hugely disappointed in the professionalism of my players today.

“I think it’s really out of order that you relinquish that responsibility just cos you’ve gone 2-0 down one minute into the second half… there’s still another 44 minutes plus injury time to play, and play your way back into the game like you did in the first half.”

The public criticism of Everton’s team is an approach many managers may not have chosen to take, but Lampard felt that Allardyce was correct.

The Chelsea legend said: “He’s gone strong there, and I think he’s right. It’s made easy by Everton and their sloppy and disorganised defending.”

Everton fell behind against Spurs when Heung-Min Son found the back of the net, and they never threatened to get back into the contest.

Harry Kane scored a brace before Christian Eriksen rounded things off for Spurs, with a brilliant finish.

Everton are now winless in six matches, with Allardyce’s side’s performances worsening in recent weeks.

Everton are currently in ninth place in the Premier League table, with their next match coming against West Bromwich Albion.
