Frank Lampard’s Chelsea won against Steve Bruce’s Newcastle United at the weekend.
The Blues got the better of the Magpies 1-0 at Stamford Bridge in London in the Premier League on Saturday.
Marcos Alonso scored the only goal of the game between Chelsea and Newcastle in the 73rd minute.
Chelsea boss Lampard – who earns £4 million per year as salary, according to The Express – has given his take on the display produced by Newcastle.
Lampard told The Chronicle: “Newcastle put a lot of numbers behind the ball, were organised and carried a bit of a threat. We were a little bit safe in the first half and we were less safe in the second half. We’re very happy.”
Bouncing back
Chelsea were the better team, but Newcastle did make it hard for Lampard’s side, and there is no surprise that the London outfit could not score more than once.
Steve Bruce’s side were resilient, and perhaps they will feel disappointed not to have picked up at least a point from the encounter.
According to BBC Sport, Newcastle had 29% of the possession, took five shots of which none was on target, and failed to earn a single corner.
The defeat means that Newcastle are third from bottom in the Premier League table at the moment with just eight points from nine matches.
Newcastle will return to action next weekend when they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at St. James’ Park in the Premier League.
