Frank Lampard comments on Derby County penalty incident

Marcelo Bielsa’s Marcelo Bielsa won against Frank Lampard’s Derby County on Saturday.

Derby County manager Frank Lampard has given his take on the penalty decision during the match against Leeds United, as quoted in Leeds Live.

The Rams lost 1-0 to Leeds at home in the first leg of their Championship playoff semi-final tie on Saturday evening.

Kemar Roofe scored the only goal of the match in the 55th minute, but the result could have been different had a late penalty decision stood.

Jayden Bogle went down inside the Leeds penalty area following a challenge with Manchester City-owned Jack Harrison.

Referee Craig Pawson awarded the penalty, but then consulted linesman Eddie Smart before changing his decision.

Leeds were given a free kick, much to the frustrations of the Derby players, and Rams’ manager Lampard was not impressed.

The Chelsea legend was not too impressed with the officials, and he has also suggested that there was pressure on them from Leeds players.

Leeds Live quotes Lampard as saying: “Penalty could have gone either way. probably was because Bogle gets his leg across. Astounding the referee points to the spot before consulting his linesman.

“Must be some big info everyone in the stadium hasn’t seen. Like VAR without the computers. Human VAR. Repeat I don’t think it’s a penalty, but doesn’t like it was given and reversed.”

Lampard added when asked if he has been given an explanation: “No. Do want one. Never seen a decision turned unless something hasn’t been seen.

“Amazed a referee in a game of this magnitude can do that. Possibly influenced by Leeds players. That’s normal. When a referee needs to stay strong.”

Derby will find it hard to win against Leeds away from home at Elland Road in the second leg next week.
