Frank Lampard has written in The Evening Standard that he wouldn’t be surprised to see Fernando Llorente spearhead Tottenham Hotspur’s attack away to Borussia Dortmund tonight.

Tottenham could potentially seal top spot in their Champions League group tonight if they beat the Bundesliga side and second-placed Real Madrid fail to beat APOEL in Cyprus.

Spurs have been outstanding in Europe but Mauricio Pochettino’s side go into the clash on the back of a disappointing 2-0 defeat away to Arsenal in the North London derby.

Plenty of the Lilywhites’ bigger names did not turn up at the Emirates, with the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli looking like shadows of their best selves.

Kane hadn’t kicked a ball in 13 days prior to starting against the Gunners and such a subdued performance has prompted suggestions that he wasn’t fully fit to begin with.

Consequently, Chelsea legend Lampard feels that Pochettino should go with summer signing Fernando Llorente – yet to score in 13 appearances across all competitions this season – tonight.

“Given doubts over Kane’s fitness, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Fernando Llorente start up front instead,” he wrote in The Evening Standard.

“Llorente is still waiting to score his first goal for the club but I still think he was a good signing after Spurs got him from Swansea in the summer.

“When you have a player as good as Kane, it is very hard to get direct competition because they will not get in.

“To be back-up to him, you either find a young player who is happy to learn from Kane and get a few minutes here and there or you get someone at the other end of their career like Llorente.”
