Jack Marriott started for Derby County for the first time in midweek, with Frank Lampard’s side progressing in the Carabao Cup.

Marriott was brought to Derby from Peterborough United this summer, and he has been held back so far.
The Football League’s top scorer from last season only had a brief pre-season, so Lampard has been keen to get him up to speed before handing him his debut.
However, the striker started against Oldham Athletic in the Carabao Cup in midweek, and helped Derby to a 2-0 win.
Although Marriott did not score on his debut for the Rams, he still caught the eye.
And Lampard is really enjoying working with Marriott, who has impressed the Rams boss with his attitude.
“I feel is going to be a big goalscorer for this club but we must be a bit careful with him at the beginning and not heap too much on him,” Lampard said.

“There will be some adapting for him but because of his personality, he wants to adapt.
“He gets in the box, he’s always in there. He is hungry for goals, and I love players like that.”
Derby have fierce competition up-front, with Martyn Waghorn and Dave Nugent competing for a place.
Marriott could have hope of holding on to his place in the starting line-up this weekend though, when Derby are due to face Millwall.
