Former Crystal Palace manager Frank De Boer says that even though Wilfried Zaha has the potential to play for a much bigger club, he shouldn’t leave the Eagles in January.

There has been speculation around Zaha’s future, with clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Tottenham having been in the hunt for his signature, according to reports from the Evening Standard.

The former Manchester United attacker is arguably one of the best Premier League players outside the top six since the start of last season.

He is crucial to Roy Hodgson’s plans and Crystal Palace joint-owner Josh Harris has insisted recently that Zaha, who signed a new five year contract at the end of last season, will not be sold in January.

However, De Boer, who lost his job after the opening four Premier League fixtures, says things could have been different had Zaha not injured himself when he was at the helm at Selhurst Park.

He added that Zaha has the ability to play for a big club, Liverpool being the ideal destination for him.

“Not really right now, because he has to play every game, every week, I think that’s important for him right now,” said De Boer, as quoted by Omnisport (video provided by Goal.com).

“Liverpool would be a great club for him, but I’m going to see what he does in the future. I’m very interested in him because I think he has a great potential.”
