Arsenal are currently level on points at the top of the table.

Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin has told the club’s official website that the difference this season if they have strong character.

The Gunners have made a strong start to this campaign and are currently eight games unbeaten in the Premier League.

They continued their fine form on Saturday as they beat Sunderland 4-1 at the Stadium of Light.

That result left them top of the Premier League table alongside Liverpool and Manchester City, with all three sitting on 23 points after ten games.

It is an impressive run at present from Arsene Wenger’s team and Coquelin says their strong character is the reason behind it.

“This year we have got strong character, we have shown that in the past,” he told Arsenal Player.

“Everyone is fighting and it was a massive win. The character we are showing at the moment is great, plus the fans – home and away – have been great, so that is an extra boost for us as well.”

It is now up to Arsenal to ensure they maintain their current form for the rest of the season.

Their fans will not be getting too excited by their start yet given they were joint top of the table at the same time last season.

That campaign saw them top in their own right heading into 2016 but they eventually finished ten points behind winners Leicester City.

It was a chastening experience, to say the least, and they will have to prove they have learned their lessons from that to be serious contenders this year.
