The Sassuolo defender has long been linked with a move to the King Power.

Leicester City have been linked with a move for Italian defender Francesco Acerbi for some time. The Sassuolo centre-back has impressed with the Neroverdi, earning Italian caps during his time at the club.

In January Leicester were heavily linked with an £8 million move for the player by The Sun – but no deal ever came off.

But comments from the 29-year-old this week should give Leicester a hope of signing the former AC Milan man.

He is quoted by TuttoMercatoWeb as stating:

“Each of us must have desire and malice, we are in Serie A, you go to play at important stages. We must have personal goals, dreams, because the career is short, ends, if you have goals and reasons you are empty inside.

“But I believe that each of us have them. Sunday against Roma? Playing against great teams gives you motivation regardless, you want to win, you want to look good, but you always have that attitude, beyond the big stage.”

The defender was earmarked by Leicester as a potential back-up to the defensive partnership of Wes Morgan and Robert Huth at the King Power.

His desire to be more ambitious and play bigger teams may certainly lead him to consider a move to the Premier League where he can play against the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool – before even reaching the title contenders.

Leicester’s success in the Champions League is only bound to help such an argument.

Perhaps a summer swoop for Acerbi could be a wise move for the club.
