Frances Tiafoe is going through a tough stretch, dropping to 28th in the world rankings during what’s been his roughest season yet on the ATP Tour.
The American has yet to reach a semi-final in 2025 and recently suffered early exits in both Japan and Shanghai.
Tiafoe also struggled to make an impact for the United States during their Davis Cup loss to the Czech Republic, and he currently holds a 26-22 record for the year.
His talent isn’t in question — Tiafoe was just one set away from making it to the US Open final in 2024. But that level of play hasn’t carried over into this season.
Frances Tiafoe pulls out of the Brussels Open
Frances Tiafoe, ranked 28th in the world, has withdrawn from the Brussels Open scheduled for October 12-19.
The American won’t lose any ATP ranking points, as he didn’t play in this event last year. The 27-year-old, who recently lost to world number 150 Yannick Hanfmann at the Shanghai Masters, will be replaced in the draw by Bosnia’s Damian Dzumhur.

Roberto Bautista Agut returns to defend his title, with the tournament now held in Brussels instead of Antwerp.
Bautista Agut is back again this year and will be joined by names like Lorenzo Musetti, Felix Auger-Aliassime and last year’s runner-up Jiri Lehecka.
Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is seeded fourth despite still chasing his first ATP Tour title, while Brazilian prospect Joao Fonseca holds the eighth seed.
Frances Tiafoe’s next tournament appearance
Frances Tiafoe could be back on court before the end of the month. He’s listed for the ATP 500 event in Vienna, Austria, where Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev and Alex de Minaur are also expected to feature.
Jack Draper is the defending champion but won’t be taking part this year due to injury.

Tiafoe made it to the second round in last year’s tournament before falling to Matteo Berrettini in a three-set match. This year’s event runs from October 20 to 26.
