Well, Liverpool signing Darwin Nunez is looking increasingly likely.

The Times have reported that a medical is expected to happen tomorrow, after Liverpool agreed personal terms with the Benfica hitman ahead of a £85 million transfer to Anfield, according to Fabrizio Romano.

At this point, it certainly seems to be a question of when and not ‘if’ any longer.

The Reds played three cup finals during the 2021-22 campaign and failed to score in any of them.

That’s 330 minutes without a goal in a Carabao Cup, FA Cup or Champions League final last season for Jurgen Klopp’s side, who beat Chelsea on penalties to win the first two and then lost to Real Madrid in the continentnal showpiece.

And Robbie Fowler believes that the Uruguay international – who scored 34 goals in all competitions for the Portuguese outfit last term – is the missing piece of the jigsaw for the German manager.

Under Klopp, a certain Robert Lewandowski established himself as a world-class goalscorer, while the same is true of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

And Kop icon Fowler is confident that Liverpool signing Darwin Nunez will cause the 22-year-old to explode while working under a coach of Klopp’s talents.

He told The Mirror: “They’ve been brilliant this past year, but you look at the biggest games, and they didn’t always have that goalscoring edge. The Champions League final against Madrid was a game they should have won, but didn’t because of missed chances.

“Nunez could eventually be that striker to convert those chances. And if any manager is going to get it out of him, then it’s Klopp. You’ve seen him do it with Salah and Mane, definitely with Lewandowski at Dortmund.”
