Roberto Firmino’s season at Liverpool gets better and better with the Brazilian ace signing a new contract extension at the club this weekend.

Firmino has scored a terrific 27 goals in all competitions for Liverpool this season including 11 in 13 Champions League games.

It seems staggering to consider that four years ago Firmino was being lined up for a move to Liverpool’s local rivals Everton.

The Mirror reported in March 2014 that then Toffees boss Roberto Martinez was desperate to sign Firmino.

Martinez reportedly dispatched Everton’s chief scout to see Firmino in action for Hoffenheim and wanted him as an alternative to Gerard Deulofeu.

Deulofeu went to Sevilla the following season before signing with Everton permanently in 2015. He has since been sold.

It was in the same year, 2015, that Liverpool spent £29 million to sign Firmino from Hoffenheim.

By that point Everton were out of the running with his price escalating. A year earlier was their big chance.

Firmino has blossomed and there is a chance that if Everton signed him, they would be battling to keep hold of him right now if they had not cashed in already.

But surely not landing Firmino at all and seeing his success at their rivals quantifies as a big regret considering the excitement the Brazilian could have brought to Goodison Park.
