Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani should be really worried about fans suddenly not caring.

Barnsley manager Paul Heckingbottom during The Emirates FA Cup Third Round match between Millwall and Barnsley at The Den on January 6, 2018 in London, England.

Leeds lost again at the weekend as they slumped to a 2-1 defeat to Norwich City.

While the scoreline was a narrow one, Leeds’ performance in the second half was particularly abject and it was the latest in a series of terrible displays.

Quotes afterwards from BBC Radio Leeds co-commentator Noel Whelan should have particularly stung owner Andrea Radrizzani.

Whelan said: “Absolutely shocking performance by Leeds United and the players – let themselves down and the manager, but more so the fans. They should have put on a better display. End of season – I don’t really care.”

It is those four words at the end of Whelan’s comment which should be deeply concerning, ‘I don’t really care’.

These comments come from a Leeds born player who represented Leeds United as a footballer and is an ambassador for the club and commentates on them weekly.

If this Leeds side have made even him depressed and struggling to muster up the energy to get excited about the club, then Radrizzani is going to struggle to engage thousands of fans.

Whelan is not just influential due to his platform, his comments reflect dozens of supporters feeling the same way.

Leeds have won just three games in 2018 and the football they are playing appears aimless and dire. Play-offs have been a distant dream for a while.

Major surgery on this Leeds squad is needed this summer and Radrizzani needs a spectacular plan to set it right and get fans excited about next season.
