West Ham United are heading into a vital stage of the season as they battle for Premier League survival.

With West Ham going into the final part of the season in a very precarious position, it looks like it is going to have to be an extremely productive summer at the London Stadium if they manage to preserve their Premier League status.

Much of the criticism of the Irons has been directed at the owners due to the club’s recruitment, and many of the fans probably would not mind if the Irons undertook a mass clear-out in the coming months.

With that in mind, here is a look at four players who should perhaps feel that they are playing for their West Ham futures in the coming weeks…

Patrice Evra

Patrice Evra is one of the most obvious members of the West Ham squad who is playing for his future this season, with Sky Sports reporting when he joined earlier this year that his contract runs until the end of the campaign. So far, it has been an underwhelming start to life at the London Stadium for the veteran, but he will be hoping to prove that he still has the quality to make an impact at the highest level and deserves to earn an extended deal. Right now, there may not be too many fans disappointed if his stay is brief.

Patrice Evra of West Ham United arrives prior to the Premier League match between Swansea City and West Ham United at Liberty Stadium on March 3, 2018 in Swansea, Wales.

James Collins

Like Evra, James Collins’ contract expires in the summer – as reported by The Sun. The 34-year-old may be reaching the twilight of his career and may not play as often as he used to, but he is still a very decent squad player and letting him leave in the summer may be a gamble given how many young defenders are coming through. It is now up to the Welshman to prove that he can still be influential next season – unfortunately for Collins however, an injury sustained in their friendly on Wednesday may raise questions over how much game-time he gets in the remaining weeks of the season.

Joe Hart

Right now, it would be a huge shock if Joe Hart’s loan spell was extended beyond the end of the season. The England international has been disappointing since arriving and missed a golden chance to impress when he was recalled for that Burnley game. A stunning run of form that helps West Ham stay up may perhaps leave the Hammers hierarchy feeling that they have a decision to ponder – but that currently looks somewhat unlikely.

Jordan Hugill

Less than two months after his £10 million move – fee reported by BBC Sport – it is perhaps fair to say that Jordan Hugill is somewhat struggling to win the fans over. It would be unfair to judge the striker just yet before he has had a proper run of games in the team, but Moyes may deem throwing Hugill in a gamble at this stage of the season. And that may be a worrying hint regarding his future at the club beyond the summer.
