Four tempting free agents still available for the new season

Former Manchester United, Sunderland, Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland players feature.

Not too long ago I put together a piece on Europe’s best free agent XI and since then many have determined their futures.

Andriy Shevchenko has retired and it seems Steed Malbranque has gone the same way, while Paul Scharner today signed for German club Hamburg.

Junior Hoilett, Manuel Almunia and Khalid Boulharouz have new clubs yet there are some really talented players still out there and with the season approaching who should realistically expect be on a team sheet by the start of play?

Louis Saha

Injury prone, well yes, very much so but he is also a potent finisher and experienced Premier League performer at clubs such as Manchester United, Spurs and Everton. His future may lay in his homeland of France with many a team interested in his signature but I would like to see him in the Premier league scoring goals again, and surely a club will snap him up to bolster any flailing attacking line-ups.

Possible destinations: Sunderland, Aston Villa, Fulham, Lille.

Michael Owen

This seems to be dragging on a bit as Michael Owen shouldn’t have any trouble finding suitors to his name. A legend in the game and still carrying a significant goal threat his main issue would be his susceptibility to injury. Coupled with assumingly high wages his signing would be a risky venture, but Michael remains adamant he wants to play in the Premier League so somebody should try and take advantage of that quickly.

Possible destinations: Everton, Stoke City, Southampton.

Harry Kewell

His last transfer deal to Melbourne Victory went on for a long time and now, after leaving the club to return to the UK for personal reasons he is looking for a new job back in his adoptive homeland. Its been too long since the ‘Wizard of Oz’ has graced British grass and he will surely not be a free agent for long.

Possible destinations: Blackburn Rovers, Nottingham Forest, Swindon Town.

Craig Gordon

Remember that save? Well if you don’t I have linked the video below because he is worth a move to a top club based purely on that moment.

A great shotstopper and I would go on record as saying that he will win you more points than he would lose you. He won’t want to be a backup keeper though and that is the main issue. Not many Premier League teams are now after new number 1’s and if they were, the injury prone Scot may not be their first choice. He could move back to Scotland, move abroad, or play in the Championship but I think he should be playing in the Premiership.

Possible destinations: Udinese, Bristol City, Leeds United, Rangers.

With players such as Ballack, Hargreaves, Hitzlsperger, Klasnic, Steinsson, Heskey and Grosso also still available on a cheeky free there is a host of names that your club could sign if they are willing to have a gamble.

Who would you want your club to sign?
