Southampton face local rivals Bournemouth this weekend.
Southampton defeated Bournemouth 3-1 earlier in the season
Southampton host Bournemouth this weekend in what some would call a South Coast derby.
Whether it is or isn’t a derby is a debate for another time, but four apparent rival players have played for both sides – a surprising amount in recent years.
Adam Lallana is perhaps the most high-profile example, with the reigning England player of year having been signed from Bournemouth aged 12 and later spent time there on loan, while there are four in the two sides’ current squads.
Andrew Surman
Having come through Southampton’s academy, Surman made 146 appearances before being sold in 2009 following the club’s bankruptcy and relegation to League One.
A winger and one of Southampton’s best players at that time, he has since reinvented himself as a holding midfielder and becoming one of the Cherries’ most reliable players, appearing in every minute of last season’s league campaign.
Southampton sold Andrew Surman to Wolves, and from there he ended up at Bournemouth via Norwich
Of the ex-Saints returning to St Mary’s, he’ll get the best reception.
Ryan Bertrand
Bournemouth was where Bertrand got his first taste of first team football, as a lonee from Chelsea, but he made only five appearances.
When returning to the Vitality Stadium earlier in the season he receieved some half-hearted boos but had the last laugh when he scored the first goal in Southampton’s 3-1 comeback win.

Artur Boruc
The maverick shot-stopper arrived at Southampton when they returned to the Premier League and soon beat out Kelvin Davis and Paolo Gazzaniga to become the club’s number one.
However he was personally affronted when Fraser Forster arrived two years later, looking to jump ship at the first opportunity and that came in the form of a loan move to the Cherries.

That became permanent after he helped them win promotion to the top flight and, despite some gaffes this season, remains the first choice goalie.
Tyrone Mings
Mings came through Southampton’s academy in the same age group as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain but was released at 16.
The set-back didn’t perturb him and he’s worked his way up from non-league football to the Premier League, although his time in the top flight has been dogged by injury.
Tyrone Mings cost £8 million but, with the exception of his violent display at Old Trafford, has done little of note
He can’t feature against his former club though as he’s still suspended from his clash with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
