Sheffield Wednesday paid a reported £5 million to prise the winger from Middlesbrough.

Some stats don’t reflect the true picture.

With no goals and no assists in his first eight appearances, it would be easy to conclude that Sheffield Wednesday’s £5 million investment in Adam Reach is being pissed up the wall.

Based on his recent displays, however, Wednesdayites needn’t worry.

Let’s not forget Reach has spent just 40 per cent of his Hillsborough career in his natural position, having filled in at left-back for the previously injured Daniel Pudil.

And though, somewhat bizarrely, it was Pudil who scored the Owls’ equaliser at Cardiff on Wednesday night, Reach’s input should not go unnoticed.

In fact, it was Reach who instigated the move which led to the Czech’s goal, as he cut in from the right flank and exchanged a series of one-twos with Kieran Lee before sliding into Gary Hooper’s path.

The striker then lashed across the face of goal where Pudil arrived to sidefoot home via a Cardiff player.

In total, Reach made 12 successful passes in the final third of the pitch, bettered only by David Jones (13), and had four scoring attempts, at least two more than any of his teammates.

He also delivered three crosses, made three ball recoveries and won two of his three take-ons and a tackle to boot.
