Four new faces, is this how West Ham will line up by the end of January?

West Ham United boss David Moyes has admitted he is keen to bring in new players during the January transfer window.

Moyes has already bemoaned a lack of midfield and defensive options and has admitted he is keen to add some quality players to his first team.

Co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold have also reportedly handed the Scot funds for up to four signings this month – and a minimum of two – as reported by the Evening Standard.

That could see as much as £30 million being spent this month, which perhaps would have been more wisely released in the summer.

The Hammers have been linked with a plethora of players already but will surely focus the majority of their funds on improving their midfield.

A lack of options through poor recruitment and planning has left Moyes picking up the pieces of a lopsided squad.

And of the midfielders he does have at his disposal only Mark Noble and Manuel Lanzini are performing anywhere near their capabilities with Cheikhou Kouyate and Pedro Obiang particularly woeful of late.

Looking at the Hammers it is clear they need at least two new midfielders, a defender and possibly a striker if they allow Diafra Sakho and Andre Ayew to leave.

Based on players the club have been linked with and the viability of the transfers to all parties West Ham would do well to bring in Sevilla’s Steven N’Zonzi and Watford outcast Etienne Capoue in midfield.

In defence West Ham have been linked with Swansea’s Alfie Mawson and West Brom’s Jonny Evans. Both look unlikely given the fact they are two of West Ham’s relegation rivals.

But both Ayew or Sakho have reportedly been thrown into the mix in a potential deal for Mawson which could suit all parties given Swansea’s desperate need for a goalscorer.

Up front, should the Hammers offload one or both of their African strikers, the East Londoners may finally land longstanding target Michy Batshuayi – most likely on loan with an option to buy – as the 24-year-old seeks more game time in a bid to make Belgium’s World Cup squad.

Antonio Conte has said he will not stand in Batshuayi’s way if he wants to leave and the Hammers had a £30m bid for the striker accepted in 2016 only for the player to choose Chelsea instead.
