Four months after his move to Chelsea was agreed, Rangers are still in the mind of ex-Ibrox youngster Billy Gilmour.

The 16-year-old has made a bright start to his Chelsea career, scoring on his under-18s debut against Arsenal earlier this month.

But it would appear he has not forgotten about those he left behind at Rangers, after sending a congratulatory tweet to former teammate Ross McCrorie on Tuesday.

“Welldone @RossMcCrorie4 hopefully many more,” wrote the Ayrshire native, after McCrorie made his first Gers appearance against Partick Thistle.

Another product of Rangers’ Auchenhowie academy, the versatile defender impressed as Pedro Caixinha’s side overcame their local rivals 3-1 after extra-time.

Caixinha tipped McCrorie to become ‘one of the best centre-halves in history’ afterwards, and said the 19-year-old could replace Bruno Alves against Celtic this weekend, if the Portuguese fails to recover from the knock which saw him withdrawn at Firhill.

Chelsea are said to have paid an initial £500,000 for Gilmour, who never made an appearance for Rangers’ first team, despite training with them last season.
