Celtic star still has some work to do.
When Ryan Christie reflects on the 2018/19 season, the Celtic star will regard it as a success.
A year ago he was unsure whether he had a future at the club, now he is a first team regular.
Yet last night away to Valencia was a case in point that he has plenty of improving to do.
There were some positives. Christie did create four goalscoring chances, more than any player on the pitch.
The problem was it could have been a lot more.
Christie’s delivery from set pieces was dreadful, and let his team down.
Especially in the second half with Celtic chasing the game, Christie could not find a Celtic teammate from free-kicks.
Perhaps it was just tiredness coming into play, or facing a superior Valencia defensive set up, but he could not find a way to help his side.
It’s impossible to be too harsh on Christie as there were positives to his performance, in which he completed more than 90 per cent of his passes.
When it really mattered though, and Celtic needed Christie to provide a decisive ball into the box from a set piece, he was not up to it.
If Celtic are to improve in Europe next season, this is an area in which Christie will need to show improvement.
