Gab Marcotti has urged Liverpool and Chelsea transfer target Youssoufa Moukoko to follow Erling Haaland by signing a new Borussia Dortmund contract, but adding a ‘low-release clause’ in the deal, as he told ESPN.
The 18-year-old has less than 12 months left to run at Dortmund and European football expert Marcotti thinks he shouldn’t be going to either Liverpool, Chelsea or Manchester United.
Jurgen Klopp has summer signing Darwin Nunez still trying to get comfortable, whilst Graham Potter needs a forward in West London, but not a player of Moukoko’s inexperience.
After Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit at Old Trafford, Erik ten Hag is also in need of a forward, but once again, in terms of game time, the teenager will earn more at his current club.
That’s why Marcotti thinks he needs to stay where he is, put a release clause in a new contract, which then provides those English clubs with the chance to secure his transfer down the line, as he used Erling Haaland as an example.
“Youssoufa Moukoko’s contract is winding down,” said Marcotti. “He has been linked to Liverpool, Man United and Chelsea.
“But apparently he doesn’t want to just move somewhere to sit on the bench. Don’t go for one of these clubs because you will probably sit on the bench at these clubs. Stay where you are.
“Sign a (new) contract (with Dortmund). Get one of those very low-release clauses. You can tell Dortmund. ‘I leave for nothing or you give me a low release clause (and I will sign a new contract)’, like Erling Haaland’s release clause when he moved from Salzburg to Dortmund. It was £20 million, something that.
“You do that and hold all the cards. Develop and grow there because if you go to Liverpool, then you will be on the bench. If you go to Manchester United, right now actually you might start at United and at Chelsea. But they are going to bring in more experienced strikers than you.”
LIVERPOOL AND CHELSEA NEED PROVEN PERFORMERS
For the future, there is no doubt that it would be worth taking a punt on Moukoko during the January transfer window.
But that shouldn’t be either Liverpool or Chelsea’s priority right now because they need players who can come in and do the job straight away.
They are at risk of losing their Champions League spots, and at this current moment, they are sitting outside of the top-four places.
Arsenal’s rise to the top is seemingly changing the order, for now, whilst Newcastle United, with their Saudi-led ownership behind them, are already causing havoc and Eddie Howe’s men just can’t be taken lightly.
