Leeds United remain on course to achieve promotion to the Premier League.

Former Whites boss, and current club ambassador Eddie Gray spoke to LUTV for an exclusive interview, and highlighted how Garry Monk’s men now have to stand up and be counted, suggesting that nine points from their remaining six games will secure them promotion to the Premier League.

Leed currently sit in fifth position in the Championship table, five points clear of seventh placed Fulham, but they head into tomorrow’s clash with Preston North-End on the back of consecutive defeats, and face one of their first real psychological tests of the season.

The West Yorkshire outfit have exceeded expectations so far this season, but now they are in the position that they are in, and have demonstrated the quality that they possess, Leeds fans will be expecting nothing less than a return to the top flight.

And Gray, who enjoyed spells as both a player and manager at Elland Road, told LUTV how three wins should be enough to secure Leeds’ place inside the top six:

“This is where you have to stand up and be counted. You are playing football to put yourself in these sorts of positions. That’s what you are playing for, so you have to approach the game in the manner that you are going to win the game. If we win three out of the six games, they are not going to catch us and hopefully we are going to do that.”

Monk’s men will be desperate for three points against Simon Grayson’s side, as they look to stop the rot, especially with a trip to the North-East to take on Newcastle United on the horizon.

And if the Whites do manage to achieve promotion to the Premier League, it would have to go down as one of the best achievements in Leeds’ recent history, since their relegation from the top tier in 2004.
