Leeds United’s push for a place inside the play-off spots ultimately ended in failure.
Eddie Gray in the stands
Ex-Whites boss and current club ambassador Eddie Gray spoke exclusively to LUTV, and discussed what he believes has been a successful season for his former club.
The Whites were incredibly impressive this term, despite their blip towards the end of the campaign which cost them a place inside the play-off spots.
Garry Monk deserves great credit for the manner in which he transformed what was an under-performing Leeds side into genuine contenders for promotion, and the majority of Whites fans will surely be delighted with the progress their side has made under the former Swansea City boss.
This summer will be vitally important for Monk, if he remains in charge at Elland Road. He has one of the most exciting young squads in the division at his disposal, but he must supplement his young stars with more experienced quality, if they are to make the jump to the top flight.
Eddie Gray spoke exclusively to LUTV about his former club’s 2016/17 campaign, and highlighted how it must go down as a successful one, despite the disappointment of missing out on the play-offs:
Former Leeds manager Eddie Gray
“This season, you sum it up, you look at the whole season, and you think to yourself, if we would have been hovering outside the top sixth, maybe seventh, eighth, ninth position for the majority of the season, I think everyone would have said, ‘well that’s a great season’.”
One thing’s for sure, if the West Yorkshire outfit are to make progress again next term, they must retain the services of Monk. If they do manage to do that, the sky will be the limit for this exciting current crop of Leeds stars.
