The winger found it difficult to command a regular place in the West Ham starting lineup.
Former West Ham United winger Sofiane Feghouli has expressed his frustration at not being given sufficient opportunities to prove himself at the club.
Feghouli joined West Ham from Valencia in 2016 but left permanently last summer after making just 27 appearances as he was unable to hold down a regular starting berth.
As reported by Foot Mercato, Feghouli said: “I was not given a chance, despite my return and the fact that I made a few goals. It did not go well. I almost left the club in the winter transfer window.
“I had opportunities and wanted to bounce elsewhere as I was not given a chance. The club did not want to let me go. In the end, I played little.”
The Algerian scored four goals and provided three assists in total for West Ham but was left hugely frustrated by his overall situation.
Now in Turkey with Galatasaray, Feghouli is relishing playing regularly again and has three goals in ten league appearances having recovered from the injury that he suffered earlier in the campaign.
A hamstring injury at the start of the season didn’t help Feghouli’s cause at West Ham and he subsequently found it difficult to get in the side, with the arrival of Robert Snodgrass in January limiting his chances even further.
When fully fit Feghouli is capable of making a major impact with his direct runs but he has never been a regular source of goals, with seven his highest tally for a single season across all competitions, suggesting that West Ham shouldn’t have regrets about how this deal worked out.
