Former West Ham United defender James Collins is reportedly wanted by Steve Bruce’s Aston Villa.
Collins, who was on the books of Villa from 2009 until 2012, has also said that he thinks that he is still good enough for the Premier League.
The 35-year-old central defender is a free agent at the moment, having left Premier League side West Ham at the end of last season.
The former Wales international has admitted that he did think that he would be back at West Ham after leaving the London club while he was training with the Hammers.
According to The Birmingham Mail, Villa are interested in securing the services of Collins on a free transfer.
When asked about returning to West Ham, Collins said on The Friday Football Social on BBC Radio 5 Live on Friday evening (7:41pm, September 14, 2018): “It’s not going to happen, unfortunately. I was down there two weeks ago, three weeks ago, training. I probably held onto it a little bit too much, hoping it would come, but obviously I had to move on from that.”
Collins added about his future: “I would go anywhere.”
“I still know in myself I can play in the Premier League, if I am honest,” continued the defender.
Doing a good job
Collins has kept himself fit, and it would be wise of Villa to sign the former West Ham centre-back.
The Villans are struggling defensively at the moment, and the former Cardiff City centre-back would be a good signing for Steve Bruce’s side.
