The former West Ham United and Chelsea forward has enjoyed a brief stint in the U.S. but is now in search of a new team, closer to home.
Celtic’s Carlton Cole (R) scores their second goal
Former West Ham United and Chelsea striker Carlton Cole has returned to the UK after leaving Sacramento Republic, who play in the third tier in the United States, in search for a new club, according to the Sacramento Bee.
Cole made a total of four appearances during his time in the U.S. totalling 101 minutes and failed to score a goal with the ex-England international still suffering from a lingering knee injury the American newspaper are reporting.
It is also claimed that the 33-year-old will now return to the UK to search for a new side after improving his fitness, but he has not ruled out a potential return to Sacramento or to join an outfit in Major League Soccer.

Sacramento director Graham Smith is quoted as stating: “Carlton’s now in very good physical condition and his match fitness is better than when he first arrived in Sacramento. He’s gone back to the UK to see what his opportunities might be there. Then he’ll let us know his plans after Christmas.
“If he is good physical condition and wants to come back to Sacramento, I see no reason why Paul (Buckle) wouldn’t want him back next season. He’s a real gentleman, and he’s been great to have around our young players.”

Cole told the local newspaper that he enjoyed his time with the American side and he wishes to return to the U.S. to coach: “I was mentoring a few of the young players at Celtic, and was surprised how much influence I was having on them. So I really enjoyed it. I’ve visited the U.S. on vacation at least 13 times, so I know there’s a lot of talent here. I’d love to come back and try my hand at coaching young players.”
The former Chelsea youth prospect’s last playing stint in the UK was with Celtic which ended in June earlier this year.
