Burgess would advocate the arrivals of a trio of Everton, Leicester City and Aberdeen employees if Alan Pardew is sacked by West Bromwich Albion.

Former West Bromwich Albion defender Daryl Burgess has backed moves for a trio of his old teammates, now of Aberdeen, Everton and Leicester City, should Alan Pardew depart the Hawthorns.

Pardew’s future as West Brom manager is said to be under threat, after a run of one win in 14 Premier League games since the 56-year-old’s appointment.

And Burgess has told the Express & Star he would prefer to install a base of people ‘who know and feel the club’ – for example Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes, Everton coach Craig Shakespeare or Leicester assistant Michael Appleton.

“We’ve done the merry-go round trip, why not look at it another way?” Burgess told the Express & Star. “I’d have Derek and Shakey, if it was a possibility they could work together. Or Shakey and Appleton. Mooro [Darren Moore] is still there as well.

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes is seen during the William Hill Scottish Cup Final between Celtic and Aberdeen at Hampden Park on May 27, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

“You’ve got a base there of people who know and feel the club, it’s not just somewhere they’ve turned up to and they’ve got another job to do. It’s a bit more personal.

“The personal touch has been ebbing away for a long time, but I suppose that’s how the Premier League is, it’s more a corporate monster and money-making machine.

“The club has got a wider audience being in the Premier League, but we’re kind of losing that intimacy, it’s quite cold at times. It’d be nice to get back to being a bit more fan and family orientated.”

Shakespeare, who also coached at West Brom, began the season as Leicester manager, and was responsible for bringing Appleton to the King Power Stadium, before his sacking in September.

The 54-year-old quickly resurfaced at Everton, however, after another former Baggie, Sam Allardyce, landed the position of Toffees boss.

McInnes, meanwhile, has led Aberdeen to three straight second-placed finishes in Scotland’s top flight, and won them the 2013-14 League Cup.
